Benjamin Patterson Inn

We who live in a particular city are the least likely to visit our hometown attractions. So it is in Corning NY with places of interest such as CMOG (Corning Museum of Glass), the Rockwell Museum of Western Art and the Benjamin Patterson Inn Museum (a part of the Corning Painted Post Historical Society).

At BPI’s 4th of July Open House, I walked through the Inn, the blacksmith shop (the most recent addition), the schoolhouse, the herb and vegetable gardens, and the log cabin.

This morning (July 5 as I’m writing this blog entry) there was a textile demonstration in the front yard, where a small crowd gathered to watch and listen as a volunteer spun - what... Wool? Flax? Cotton?

Tomorrow (Wed, July 6) there will be a demo/talk in the garden. Thursday, a book club in the evening.

Upcoming: Lunch Talks, Family Fun Night, Cookbook Event, Sketch Club, Blacksmith Training, Cook Day, special events for students, Photo Day, Docent Programs (Jr. Docents too), Quilling/Weaving, Pioneer Camp and many others.

I joined - $20 for Seniors. $50 for families. I also occasionally volunteer at the Benjamin Patterson Inn. At last year's 30th annual Whingblinger celebration, I taught children how to wash clothes with washboards and a bar of soap.

Stop by and find out what else is going on and meet the new and dedicated director David Cavallaro. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s also our very own Doc Possum. Sing and play along with Doc at the Inn on July 26, 9:30 - 11:00 A.M.

  1. Nice collection of 'discovered' scenes Kathleen. I discovered the works of John Daido Loori recently. He was a photographer, Zen priest and the Abbot of a monastery he founded in NY. He learned to go out with your camera without expectations. Great advice that he learned from Minor White, his teacher. It seems to me that you follow that route.

When a person goes out to photograph with specific expectations they miss the unexpected in life.

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your nice comments.
