Corning NY November 1, 2013

Roses don't bloom in cold weather, do they? This one did--on October 1--and there are still some blooming in sheltered locations even today, on November 2.

When I first started this blog about the unexpected attractions of Corning, I was casually taking photos on my daily walks. The blog evolved over time and someone suggested I offer more words to accompany each photo, which I've done most times.

I've been struggling with whether or not to continue this blog. What started out as a desire to have fun taking and sharing photos has turned into pressure to produce certain themes, regular postings and to learn more about my cameras.

I've seriously thought of closing down this blog and may still make that choice. But, first I'll be attempting to get myself back on track. Back to where I truly enjoy what I'm doing... the entire process, not just trying to please my readers.

Have you "Liked" Corning NY Step By Step on Facebook yet? Lots of extra photos being posted there--including an album on the Wineglass Marathon, the High School renovation and enlargement, and the Patterson Bridge reconstruction project. Like the page and it'll be added to your FB News Feed so you'll know when I've posted a new blog entry.

It was several minutes before I realized that this service dog, accompanying the woman in front of me, was laying under the bus seat and had stretched itself out so it extended back into my area.

  1. Kathleen your blog is wonderful. Just when I return to catch up I read you might close. I just love seeing the everyday things in a place I have never visited on the other side of the world. You capture life as it really is and paint a picture over the months that words cannot express. Blogs change over time and I think all of us learn things about ourselves through them. I can't give advice on what you should and shouldn't do, but stick to what you enjoy and it will show on here.

    1. Maria, thank you for your kind words. They were just what I needed to hear, and you can be sure I will be thinking of them, and you, as I make decisions in the future about this blog.

  2. Another series of beautiful pictures!
A blog is something personal when you decide to do it by yourself (as opposed to a professional blog I mean), so it should be about what you want to post, I think, and not feeling pressured to post certain themes over others.
It should be fun and not a chore!
    Take care

  3. I agree with Maria and I had to say the same thing as what she said, Kathleen. Your Roses can bloom on bad weather. It's not because to please you (and I) - it maybe just needs to look different from others that may bring it to be proud of.

    1. Thank you, Muhammad. I'm always inspired by your beautiful photos. I know you work hard to pick out just the right pictures, but you have a good time doing it, too.

  4. Kathleen, I am very proud to have a friend like you. although we never meet each other in person, but I feel you've become a part of my life and we are both moving in the same journey, filling a small portion of rest of our time. I would think anything reasonably, if I can not do this, I will do something else that is better for my life. So do you. Best wishes
