Bird and beads at Soulshine Studio.

Benjamin Patterson Inn ~ one of my favorite places to take photos, particularly using Hipstamatic.

Beautiful garden at the Radisson...

Magnificent skies this late summer...

The beauty of a beehive. Be sure to click on this one for an enlargement. I'm including it because it is on the property where my apartment is located. Photo reprinted with permission from Deb Combs.

Firepower ~ look closely!

Part of a gaggle of geese, littering sidewalk.

Fly away. Fly away home, geese.

A sure sign of summer. Where are all the usual 'swimmers'?

Headed back to Pennsylvania...

The Patterson Bridge crosses the Chemung. A multi-million dollar renovation/repair project.

Turn around and there in the distance is the Centerway Walking Bridge ~ also currently being renovated ~ and just behind it, the Brisco Bridge.

The beginning and the ending of many of my walks.

CORNING NY STEP BY STEP is now on Facebook. LIKE it and you’ll see when I post a new entry to that blog, plus there will be extra photos of people, places and things of Corning, New York that didn’t make it into the blog itself.

Early Monday Morning

I had a very early appointment Monday. I usually walk straight east, but this time--in spite of the early morning warmth--decided to take a bus to town then cross the Brisco Bridge, south to north.

I find there is always a good reason for my decisions and in this case, I got to see a beautiful sunrise and crews already at work on Centerway Bridge renovations.

A Year's Worth of Corning 2010

Taking a look back today, I've picked out a photo from each month of the year 2010.

JANUARY 2010. A maze on the walking bridge.

FEBRUARY 2010 Looking at Corning's southside, across the river from where I was standing on the northside.

MARCH 2010

APRIL 2010 Spring buds.

MAY 2010 Tall, green grasses.

JUNE 2010 On the north side, a yard has been turned into a village with a railroad track running through it.

JULY 2010 Dog days of summer.

AUGUST 2010 Flowers in full bloom.

SEPTEMBER 2010 Beginning artwork in an alley behind Market Street.

OCTOBER 2010 Autumn leaves on the southside hill beyond the Rockwell Museum.

NOVEMBER 2010 Looking toward Corning's northside from the community-built playground at Carder Elementary School. Be sure to enlarge this one (and all the others) and look for the Little Joe Tower. There's also a miniature Little Joe Tower in the playground.

DECEMBER 2010 Happy holidays!

Looking Back at the Summer

I've been away on a Maryland vacation for over three weeks. Returned home just ahead of Hurricane Sandy and haven't yet had a good long walk to take new photos. Don't despair, though, 'cause I have LOTS of photos left over from this summer (and earlier).

The picture above is a typical scene at Centerway Square on Corning's Market Street. A great spot to take a break, eat lunch, listen to live or recorded music.

East of Centerway Square is Market Street Coffee & Tea, its facade freshly enhanced.

The Centerway Bridge, Corning's special walking bridge, is being spruced up even more than ever. No more dull grey walkway with a faded maze painted on its floor. The new plan includes landscaping, park benches, grassy areas and special lighting--all ON the bridge.

Entrance to the south side of the walking bridge...

Parked near Corning Museum of Glass's Studio. Check out the license plate...

The YMCA on Corning's north side is also being spruced up, particularly the parking areas.

The fountain attracts many "bathers" to the Riverfront Centennial Park during Corning's warmer months.

This photo was taken on Corning's Bridge Street at J&T Auto Cafe during preparations for "Race Fever".
