Nonnie Hood Parent & Resource Center

When my daughter was about four years old, I and many friends, all stay-at-home moms, drove the twenty miles to visit the new Parent Resource Center in Corning. It was a huge playroom, intended to introduce children to the atmosphere of kindergarten and where parents (mostly mothers back then) could have the chance to exchange ideas and concerns with other parents.

Twenty-some years later, my daughter takes her children to the center. I even occasionally tag along.

Everyone is welcome, including out-of-town visitors. A great place for kids and adults to meet and make new friends.

The center is located above the Southeast Steuben County Library. Most parents know you can’t just visit one or the other. Leave the library and the kids head for the elevator to go upstairs to the PRC. Or leave the center, head downstairs, and go straight for the library door. It’s a great package for kids and adults.

A bit of Corning's Southside

It’s been a mild winter as far as I’m concerned and yesterday it got warmer. Now I can start my outdoor walks again. Took a long one yesterday venturing out of Corning into Riverside and the outskirts of Painted Post.

Today I asked my daughter to drop me at the corner of State and West Fourth Streets.

East Fourth, just before Cedar, is where my daughter and I first lived when we moved here about 1992. In this house...

Wegmans

My week and my walks are not complete without at least 2-3 stops at Wegmans. Sometimes more. Groceries, meds, plants, coffee with or without a freshly baked snack, and I often relax while reading the newspaper.

Even on rare days when I’m not in the mood to socialize, I can still count on friendly smiles from employees and shoppers, including those I’ve never met.

Wegmans is a supermarket. And... Wegmans is a social event.

Tastings introduce us to new foods or new ways to fix old favorites. Wendy has a way of making vegetables taste wonderful!

Even the littlest shoppers enjoy a trip to Wegmans with a quick stop at a special bakery bin for a free small bagel or chocolate chip cookie.

Once a month Kids in the Kitchen for those 4-years old and older. My grandsons have been joining me in these fun learning events for over a year now.

Wegmans landed in third spot this year, their 14th year on Fortune magazine’s list of top 100 companies to work for!

Join me and we’ll wander through the aisles...

Bite me...

Ah, Baker Brad, this looks so-o yummy...

What kid doesn’t like to check out the lobster tank! Victor helps one pose for the camera.

Have you tried CocoPops yet?
