Corning's Northside Along The Dike And Back On W. William Street

I walked out back and up to the river, not intending to go anywhere. My walks often start that way.

In this set of photos, I'm on the northside and in the pic above, I'm looking over to the southside of Corning at a small set of houses. Most of Corning's southside housing is to the left and unseen in this pic.

Looking back along the dike where I see another view of the Hillview Drive playground.

I had to lean against the tower to keep my balance as I moved in as close as possible and looked up.

The Patterson Bridge is undergoing extensive repairs.

Still on the dike alongside the Chemung River, I looked to my right at William Street and noticed these two houses. One pristine and beautifully landscaped. Its neighbor a work in progress.

Now I've left the dike and am walking back parallel to the river, on West William Street. Look close and you'll see that the orange is rust.

I didn't recognize the tall bushes or the flowers, but they were certainly beautiful.

Memorial Day 2013

The lovely couple above have been married for 61 years, since shortly after he returned from the Korean War. I’m sure I heard them telling someone else that they have a child celebrating a 41st wedding anniversary.

I see this vehicle in the parade every year.

Randy drove the Hokey Pokey truck in the parade, as usual. This year, however, Lorraine and their granddaughter walked in front of the truck adding a special touch to the occasion.

Finally ~ I was taking a Sunday morning walk along the river (which is off to the right in this photo) and spotted this couple soaking up the sun and fresh air. In a brief conversation, they revealed that they were listening to a church sermon online.

I Haven’t Seen A Robin Yet

I haven’t seen a robin yet this spring. My tulips are 4-5 inches high and have been growing for at least six weeks in spite of the cold weather. Most of the signs of spring that I do see are the people, in the way they dress. Some bundle up, like me, and others set aside coats, scarves and gloves even on the chilliest days.


This Easter weekend brings us highs in the 40s and 50s, not bad for early spring and if the sun would come out it would be even better for a walk. So far, the sun has yet to appear and it’s already 8 AM.



HOKEY POKEY opens for the season today! Ice cream, gelato, so many fun cold treats.



While we’re waiting for the sun to come out and the robins to arrive, here are some pictures I took around Corning earlier this week.
