Transportation Center, Wineglass Marathon And More

Corning has a new transportation center on Dennison Parkway, between Wall and Cedar Streets. Various local and area busses will be picking up and dropping off passengers here instead of in the several different locations on Tioga Avenue. Some air conditioning or heat while waiting, public restrooms, lots of comfortable seating, and possibly snack machines will be a welcome change for riders. I don’t know for sure, but am guessing that long distance busses such as Trailways and Greyhound will also use this facility.

At the west end of that same block, a parking lot. Seen here Aniello’s Pizzeria and Glaswerk Optical.

I have a feeling that Wineglass Marathon preparations start soon after the previous year's event.

Roaming around Corning

More photos taken with my iPad Mini. The first two and the last photo were taken using the Hipstamatic App. Also, on the last photo, I used my iPhoto editing capabilities and changed the coloring to sepia.

The first photo, above, is yet another shot of the Benjamin Patterson Inn on Pulteney Street. I never tire of taking photos there and when my son is next in town, I plan to drag him there to join me (and further instruct me) in taking photos of the inn, the log cabin and other areas of the property with Hipstamatic (which he has on his iPhone).

East Market Street used to continue on past Wall Street. Now it stops there and can be continued on foot or, as in this case, on bicycles, past the Radisson Hotel, the Social Security Offices, the Southeast Steuben County Library and the city skating rink.

Delicate little roses outside the Radisson...

Facing west you can see the corner of Wall and Market Streets...

There's been a barber shop on Market Street in this spot for a long, long time. Reasonable prices and friendly banter. Like many other establishments on the street, they offer free access to their WiFi. I given you a link that will give you a bit of history on the shop.

Corning NY ~ May 15 and 16, 2013

It’s always windy on the bridges crossing the Chemung River. On this particular day, May 15, I was crossing the bridge on my walk home following a hair cut. No, this is not the style my hair dresser gave me!

Elders exercising at the Corning Senior Center. The Chemung River is just the other side of the view out the windows.

The new transportation center is coming together nicely and should be open sometime this summer, I assume. Local busses and others that travel to nearby communities will now assemble here between Wall and Cedar Streets, along Dennison Parkway, to load and unload riders.

Photos for Corning NY Step by Step are taken with two cameras -- a Nikon and a Canon. Today I added a third camera to the set. The first three photos (hair, Senior Center, transportation center) were taken with the camera on my new iPad Mini, a Mother’s Day gift from my children.

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see. (John Burroughs)

A tree’s offshoots have been cut back.

This bush’s attraction was in the late afternoon light shining on it.

(Each photo can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

Flowers carpet a garden in a front lawn on Pulteney Street.

The appeal in this shot was the lighting and the flowers losing their color as they make way for the formation of ornamental fruits.

In Wegmans’ parking lot, the driver of a tour bus from Vermont cleans off the windows. Look closely at the trees to see the effects of the gusting winds.

March 27, 28, 29 and 30, 2012

Today is all about more spring images in the midst of cooler weather.

Sometimes it is really difficult to choose a title for these blog entries. This entry includes photos from walks Tuesday through Friday of this week, so I think I’ll just title it with the dates.

Pictured above is a clock on side of the old bank which now houses Tony R’s, a restaurant. The dining area even includes a small private table in a vault. Behind and across the street (Market Street) in this same photo is the clock in Corning’s Centerway Square.

Swinging on the Northside...

Stormy weather passes us by...

The Pizza Hut on Pulteney Street reflects in the glass of a northside Corning Inc. building. Go here to see a series of reflections in Corning Inc. southside buildings.

Beautiful blooming trees found in every part of Corning’s downtown (business) area. Here we look south on Chemung Street. The Union Hall is on the left and beyond it is the hospital block. Unseen on the right is the Radisson.

A glimpse into the Radisson annex...

These trees are on Wall Street which is at the east end of Market Street...

Denison Parkway, former Fran’s Bridal. This south half of the block is to be torn down to build a transportation center.

The Rockwell Museum of Western Art is as lovely when viewed from the rear as it is from the front. Read about ROBERT AND HERTHA ROCKWELL, COLLECTORS OF WESTERN ART .

We had a windstorm earlier this week. Didn’t realize how hard it blew until I saw this tree in front of Wegmans. The blooms are beautiful, but because the tree is rotted inside the trunk, it will be cut down.

Pigeons usually flee at first sight of me. These two seemed determined to pose right up to the last second, then fled the scene. (Bridge Street bridge)
